All of us at CROSS AND CROWN LUTHERAN CHURCH invite you to worship with us regularly.  If you would like to know more about our church and beliefs, please contact Pastor Hartzell at (512) 869-PRAY [7729].

It is our prayer that you will be strengthened in your understanding of God's saving love in Jesus.

If there is any way that we can be of service to you, please do not hesitate to call on us.  We offer:

If you do not have a church home, please consider learning more about our family of believers that we call Cross and Crown Lutheran Church.

WE BELIEVE that Jesus comes to us in the Lord’s Supper with his true body and blood for the forgiveness of our sins.  We also believe that in the Lord’s Supper we in a special way confess the unity we have from a common understanding of God’s Word.  Therefore we ask that if you are not a member of our church that you give us the opportunity to explain our church’s teaching to you before coming to the Lord’s Supper.  Thank you!

This is the first Sunday after Christmas.  The Old Testament reading is a companion reading for the Gospel.  1 Samuel 1:18ff. is the story of Samuel as a young boy.  Luke 2:41-52 is the story of Jesus as a young man.  He was twelve years old when the story of him staying behind in Jerusalem happened.  The words we want to particularly notice in both of the readings is:  He (Jesus) grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and with men.  You will notice that the statement is in both Samuel’s story and in Jesus’.  May it be in our lives too, now that we see time going by and another Christmas past.  The epistle for today from Hebrews 2:10-18 has a puzzling statement.  It says that God the Father made Jesus "perfect through suffering."  That doesn’t mean that God the Father had to purge Jesus of impurities and wrong and that this was a gradual process.  What it does mean is that Jesus himself grew and became a complete Savior (one meaning for the word "make perfect").  Jesus grew in the experiences he had.  They served to make him the finished product God was looking for.  The process for Jesus took 33 years.  He grew and matured in his faith and life too.  Think of Jesus’ ongoing prayer life to understand the will of God.  It was still happening in the Garden of Gethsemane.  That whole process is what Hebrews 2:10-18 is talking about.  And we too are work in progress.

THANKS TO YOU — We would like to thank those who participated and helped with the special Bible school and teen group on Monday and Tuesday afternoons.  Thank you!  May this effort be blessed and bring for fruit as God allows that to happen.

NEW YEAR'S EVE SERVICE — There will be a Lord’s Supper New Year’s Eve Service this Thursday evening at 7:30.  This will be the only service we will have this week…no other Bible studies.  This service will also be the last time you will be able to take the Lord’s Supper in the calendar year 2009.  Just think, another decade of your life has come to an end.  You will have one last chance to be with fellow believers in communion in this decade.

We are very happy today to receive Kevin West as a communicant member in our church.  Kevin has completed the lessons of instruction in our church and agrees with what he has studied.  Please pray for Kevin that the Lord bless him and our church in this good thing that is happening today.

FROM THE CARING PLACE — We received the following note from The Caring Place.  They are thanking those who donated food in our congregation…food which was taken to The Caring Place.

"November Food Pantry:  Families served – 328  (985 individuals); Thanksgiving Meals – 581 families; Donated food – 22,980 pounds; value - $15,101."

"Members of Cross and Crown, Your wonderful donation to our pantry is greatly appreciated by so many during this holiday season!  All at TCP, especially our clients, join us in saying THANK YOU!  The Caring Place Staff."
