ABOUT THE SERVICE TODAY

This is the Second Sunday in Advent.  The Old Testament reading for today is from Malachi (the last book) 3:1-4.  This reading speaks about God cleansing people.  He comes to do this.  Our God is not a God of uncleanness and dirt.  The second thing this reading speaks of is the fact that our God comes asking for offerings…our offerings.  In the Bible the believer’s offerings are not discretionary.  God looks for these offerings.  It isn’t because he needs them.  The cattle on a thousand hills are his.  It is because our offerings are in his mind synonymous with our love for him.  He does desire and need our love.  The second reading is the sermon text for today.  It is from Philippians 1:3-11.  This reading speaks about the high expectation of hope that we especially think of in Advent.  He will bring our good work for him to completion!  The Gospel for this day is Luke 3:1-6.  These words speak about the greatest one in Advent apart from our Savior himself.  John the Baptist was the one who came to point to Jesus.  These words are words of fulfilled prophecy about John, the forerunner of Jesus Christ.

AT THE STROLL — Thanks to everyone who helped out with our church booth at The Stroll yesterday.  God bless our efforts to get our church’s message out to people in our community.  We pray that he will help us reach those people in our community who are unchurched.  They need what we have.  God help us to find them.

CONGREGATION/VOTERS MEETING — There will be a congregational voters meeting after church today.  The main reason for the meeting is the election of new church officers.  Please, all voters stay and help us.

CHURCH COUNCIL — There will be a Church Council meeting on Tuesday at 7:30.

SECOND MID-WEEK SERVICE — December 9 is the second of our Advent Services.  This service will be speaking about our Preparation.  Please set these evenings in December aside for special preparation for Christmas.  Please come and worship with us at 7:30 on these Wednesday evenings.

SATURDAY AT THE RITTERS — Don’t forget that Saturday evening the Ritters are hosting the congregational Christmas meal.  It begins at 5 o’clock.  There is a sign-up sheet you should check on…in the narthex, on the table.

LADIES ARE INVITED — The ladies of the congregation are invited to a Christmas gathering at Temple on Saturday.  Contact Marjorie Mueller for particulars.

PRE-CHRISTMAS CHRISTMAS — December 20 is our "Pre-Christmas Christmas" celebration.  This will be a special service specially designed for visitors.  We hope to have many visitors in church that day.  We hope you will bring many with you!  Please plan now and invite your friends and neighbors and acquaintances to come to be with us.

CHRISTMAS BIBLE SCHOOL — Please also don’t forget our Christmas Bible School on December 21 and 22.  The sessions will go from 9-12.  We would appreciate your help and participation if you can.  This will be our chance to tell children the real meaning of the season.

CHOIR MEMBERS — There is choir practice today.

On curves ahead
Remember, sonny
That rabbit's foot
Didn't save
The bunny.
