PRAYER FOR OUR PASTOR
Come Holy Spirit,
shepherd him who is to shepherd others;
guide him who is to guide others;
reveal the Scriptures to him
who is to reveal them to others;
give to him who is to give to others.
Lord Christ, have mercy upon us!
ABOUT THE SERVICE TODAY
This is the fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost. It also happens to be the Labor Day
Weekend. The pastor (and the Lord!) are happy you are here! Thank you for coming!
The first lesson for today is the story of Joshua standing before his people and
saying to them, “You aren’t going to leave too, are you?” Actually, Joshua proclaimed
to his people that he and his family were not going to be leaving the true God. He
spoke for himself and his family. May fathers and mothers today speak in this same
way for themselves and their children. The second lesson for today is from the New
Testament letter to the Ephesians 5:21-31. What important words these are! They
give the only right description of husbands and wives and their individual and different
duties and responsibilities. Friends, this still remains the owner’s manual for
marriage. Please listen and be reminded. If marriage is going to be saved—and it
is on the ropes today—it must be saved according to this, God’s original design and
description. May it be so! The Gospel reading is also the sermon text for today
and it holds that most plaintive of all Jesus’ questions, "You are not going to leave
me too, are you?" Please answer that question correctly when Jesus asks the question
of you this morning.
NEW MEMBERS — We are happy to have been able to recognize the new members Tom Gappmayer
and Doug and Sharon Bartz. That was done this past Sunday. God bless them…all three!
And the Lord bless and keep all of our members and send us new ones too.
FREE WILL OFFERING SUCCESS — Last Sunday's free will offering for two mission congregations
and East Fork Lutheran School netted $300. The Sister's of Cross and Crown contributed
an additional $300. In addition, Thrivent will be matching funds in the amount of
$300. This total of $900 will be divided, and we will be sending $300 to each.
Thank you to all for your support! May God bless the work of these churches and
CHURCH COUNCIL LUNCHEON — Members of the Church Council, please remember the lunch
in Taylor at 11:30 this Saturday. Come with your good ideas for our church and work!
COUNCIL MEETS THE 15TH — The Church Council meeting this month will be on September
15th and not on the 8th as would normally be the case. This allows for the meeting
to follow the planning meeting this Saturday.
VOTERS MEET THE 20TH — This is the first of three announcements: There will be a
Voters’ Meeting on September 20, right after the worship service. Thank you.
LWMS FALL RALLY

Rally is scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2009. This year's rally will be held
at Risen Savior Lutheran Church located at 2811 Aftonshire Way in Austin. Karl Gurgel
will speak on his recent trip to China where he worked with students in Hong Kong
and other cities, training them for Pastoral Ministry. A sign-up sheet will be available
on Sunday, September 20th and 27th. At that time we will be collecting a mission
offering. NOTE: This rally is not just for the ladies!!!! All interested members
and friends of Cross and Crown are welcome to attend. See the flyer posted in the

KINGDOM WORKERS TO PERIDOT, AZ
LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS
Something for you to think about. Our WELS Kingdom Workers group is planning to
make a special mission trip to Peridot, Arizona the third week in January. Any couples
or individuals in our congregation are welcomed and invited. The tentative plans
are to go for eight days. That would include the travel getting there and back again.
The purpose of the trip would be to clean up and repair and reconstruct things and
replace roofs (shingles) and paint the oldest mission effort of our church. This
work among the Apaches began in 1893. There will be the chance for you to hear this
special story of our mission work in the evening presentations. You will have the
chance to visit Apache believers and worship with them. It is the belief of those
who are organizing this trip that it will be a life altering event for all those
who go along. It would be a wonderful chance for you to encourage the workers who
sometimes feel that their fellow believers have marooned them at Peridot and San
Carlos. And most importantly, it will be a chance to encourage our Apache brothers
and sisters in their faith. Everyone who goes will be on their own. There is a good
possibility that there will be matching funds from WKW. There are motels in Globe,
twenty miles away. There will be some chance for some to stay on site. It is nine
hundred miles there and nine hundred miles back. But the road is good! Interstate
10 is easy driving. The speed limit is 80 mph in the daytime. We will be going
in a big convoy and that will be fun, although you can go on your own schedule too.
Think about it. Maybe you would be able to go.
PRAYER IN THE EARLY CHURCH
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving
let your requests be made known unto God.
(Paul's advise to the Philippians.)
Please remember your prayer list this morning. Thank you.
BIBLE STUDY WEDNESDAY — There will be Bible study this Wednesday evening. We are
studying Luther’s Large Catechism and will be looking at Baptism and our beliefs
about it. Please come. Our study begins at 7:30.
BIBLE STUDY THURSDAY — There will be Bible study on Thursday morning at 10:00. This
is the final week in the book of Genesis. Any requests for our next study? Ask
